ABACC’s Secretary met with the Director General of the IAEA

In April this year, a meeting was held in Vienna between the Secretary of the ABACC, Dr. José Mauro Esteves dos Santos and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei. During this work meeting —also attended by Mrs. Gil Cooley and Mr. Olli Heinonen, currently Director of the IAEA’s Safeguards Department— discussions were held on issues related to the cooperation between both agencies. Additionally, topics were discussed in connection with the application of safeguards at the commercial uranium enrichment plant of Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB), which were pending at that time. At the end of the meeting, both officials reaffirmed their will to keep promoting the joint work performed by both institutions and to go ahead with the permanent process of optimization of such cooperation.
