REGIONAL ARRANGEMENTS: NUCLEAR-WEAPON FREE ZONES AND ABACC

Abstract

Argentina and Brazil taken in last 15 years several measures that resulted in the full incorporation of the two countries into the nuclear non-proliferation regime. The basic step for this development was a Bilateral Agreement for the Exclusively Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy. A joint nuclear material accounting and inspection system administered by ABACC was implemented. This paper summarizes the main developments that lead to the close co-operation between the two countries.
